"A Fistful of Dynamite" for 23 days
There is a place suspended between past and present, light and shadow, memory and oblivion. A 'distant echo of steps, shouting and bouncing off walls defeats on areas underground, in damp, muffled silence of ancestral cavity. A thin horizontal line that divides the city shimmering, noisy and dark shadow from the city. The one wrapped inside the other, like a huge Matrioska that incorporates the layered metamorphosis over time.
The history of our roots sunk vertically into the ground, walk beneath our feet, making its way from the caves and secret passages, looking for a crack that give light and voice. To give visibility to the "city deep" is the wishes of the II Edition of "A Fistful of Dynamite. Foggia Underground "called" The loquacity of silence "- exhibition of art, history and archeology of the underground - Sit Consulting and sponsored by Wandering Pugliese, sponsored by the Municipality of Foggia, Province of Foggia and the Puglia Region, in partnership with the City and Pro site of Bovino.
The event sought to revitalize the urban underground "to give fresh impetus to cultural policy, by providing attractive containers, capable of hosting a festival with a dual soul, artistic and scientific," as pointed out by the creator of the project Ester Fracasso . From 18 December 2009 to 09 January 2010, in underground areas of Santa Clara, is was possible to visit the multimedia exhibition on the theme of the underground city, held by Francisco Cabanzo under the artistic direction of Liliana Fracasso and implemented in collaboration with Italy Nostra, the Photo and Cine Club Coopers Scurpiddu. The latter has been active in social communication with the inhabitants of the caves, involving citizens directly in the project of cultural heritage of the city of Foggia.
The exhibition shows the fascinating scenery of the subsoil Foggia, through photographic and video material (video maker Sergio Grillo), visually tracing the origins of the city, from 'old swamp caves inhabited today. According
Francisco Cabanzo it "traces the idea of \u200b\u200bthe city up and down the city, as a metaphor for the human soul. Think of a city that has been a victim, many times, tragedies, looting, earthquakes, events that have raped, disfigured, devastated to the point that its residents feel like strangers. But the big surprise was to discover that Foggia are very attached to the underground city. "
owners / tenants of the caves between the eighteenth-century Old Town and the District of Foggia, in fact, have proved very helpful with the operators of the Cooperative Scurpiddu the beginning, accepting willingly to capture the intimacy of their "home ground" and to tell, before the big eye of the camera fixed, anecdotes related to the underground, which are also buried by thick layers of time. Precious evidence documenting the historical transformations of the caves, once a stable or shelter from bombing during the war, now used as residences or shops inhabited by some elderly, nostalgic, craftsman. Why Foggia, you know, has an old soul, stifled breath it deserves. The city silent and invisible ranges through history, in precarious balance between craftsmanship and mass production, between old and new, between tradition and modernity. The old masters of the manual are located al centro di un dualismo armonico in cui passato e futuro si incontrano, intrecciandosi.
